Seven year old Devyn Curtis from Hikurangi has made some fabulous changes to improve her nutrition and get more active.
Devyn’s Doctor referred her to the Green Prescription (GRx) Active Families programme in 2014.
Since joining the programme Devyn has learned to ride her bike and increased her physical fitness. Proud Mum Sydina says “the time and patience put in was well worth all the effort”.
Devyn is walking more often and enjoys running around playing with her friends at school. Every day she moves more by sitting less and keeping herself busy with different activities that require lots more movement.
Devyn reduced her sugary food and drinks and now chooses water as her main drink. She made small changes with big rewards. She feels better and Sydina has noticed that her weight has stabilised.
Devyn formed a great bond with her Active Families support person, Ronda Le Lievre, who says “together with Sydina’s input, we worked on a plan to help Devyn”. When Ronda first met Devyn she was very shy. Quickly the visits became special to Devyn, who gained more confidence at every visit proudly sharing her achievements.
Sydina and Devyn are confident to continue being active every day and continue to choose foods to maintain a healthy, well-balanced diet.
Devyn has now graduated from the programme. Ronda says “I am very proud of Devyn and wish the whanau all the very best in maintaining an active and healthier lifestyle. Kia Kaha!”
