BECOMING AFFILIATED TO SPORT NORTHLAND

Sport Northland’s constitution makes it necessary for regional sports organisations (RSOs) to become affiliated with the trust to access the many benefits it provides.

For consideration for affiliation an organisation must:

1.Fulfil at least one of the following:

  • Have a national parent body;
  • Be a national parent body;
  • Be a regional parent body of an organisation;
  • Be an organisation representing a collective of like-organisations and be able to ‘speak’ on behalf of them; or
  • Be a single club (if they are the only club from that sport/active recreation in Northland)

2.Provide sport and/or active recreation services to the region
3. Have an organisational structure (formal)
4. Have a membership
5. Currently pay annual affiliation fee

Sport Northland’s Board can consider individual applications that vary from the above in exceptional circumstances.

BENEFITS OF AFFILIATION INCLUDE

One of 14 regional sports trusts throughout New Zealand, Sport Northland is a charitable trust whose vision is “​​​​All Northlanders leading better lives through involvement in play, active recreation, and sport’’. The Core Purpose is "Enriching lives through play, active recreation, and sport'’.  Key stakeholders are Sport New Zealand, sponsors, schools, local authorities, regional sports organisations, Board, staff, and public.

Outlined below is a list of benefits to affiliated codes.


BENEFITS

  • Eligibility to vote at the Sport Northland Annual General Meeting and to nominate trustees running for election onto Sport Northland board
  • Eligibility for consideration to nominate for the Northland Sports Awards and to have own code award included in the event
  • Eligibility for consideration to nominate athletes for the Kauri Club grants
  • Eligibility for consideration to nominate athletes for the Northland Sports Talent Hub
  • Opportunity to have a page/link on Sport Northland’s website
  • Opportunity to attend Northland Regional Sports Forums
  • Membership of the Northland Sports Coalition (see here for more info)
  • Opportunity to attend generic training and coaching workshops
  • Use of meeting rooms in the Northland Sports House
  • Linked into Sport Northland’s communication and training network
  • Support and guidance in management and governance issues, where possible (advise, templates and best practice examples)
