The Kauri Club was established in July 2000 by Sport Northland, following a donation to the Trust from the family of the late Garry Frew, the legendary sports editor of the Northern Advocate and an icon of Northland sport (inducted as a Northland Legend of Sport).

Garry Frew

Kauri Club History

The Kauri Club was formed in July 2000 by Sport Northland, after a donation to the Trust by the family of the late Garry Frew, the legendary sports editor of the Northern Advocate and icon of Northland sport (inducted as a Northland Legend of Sport).

Garry Frew's Sporting History Collection

A collection of scrapbooks created by Garry Frew containing sports-related clippings from 1950 to 1976. Garry Frew was Sports Editor for the Northern Advocate, a regional daily newspaper, presently owned by NZME (New Zealand Media and Entertainment). After he died in 2000, Garry's scrapbooks were gifted to Sport Northland. The digitised versions can be viewed below.
