Promoting water safety and education
The Northland WaterSafe and Top Energy WaterSafe programmes are a partnership between Sport Northland and regional funders Water Safety New Zealand (Northland wide), Top Energy Ltd (Far and Mid North) and the Northland District Health Board (Northland wide). The principal aims of these partnerships is to improve the fundamental swimming skills, water safety awareness and associated survival skills for primary and intermediate school aged children.
The successful award winning Top Energy WaterSafe programme has been running in the Far and Mid North since 1997 due to the fantastic and longtime support from Top Energy Ltd. Thanks to partnerships with Water Safety New Zealand and the Te Whatu Ora Northland, the same model programme is offered FREE to Whangarei and Kaipara primary and intermediate schools under the title of the Northland WaterSafe Programme.
The aim of the Top Energy WaterSafe and Northland WaterSafe programmes is to raise the water safety and swim to survive skills of primary and intermediate aged children and provide teachers with the confidence to deliver these skills through comprehensive programmes. Outcome goal, to achieve zero preventable drownings and reduce the number of hospitalisations due to near drownings in Northland, though embedding water safety skills as a life skill to our tamariki.
These FREE programmes are available for Year 1 to Year 8 school children in Northland. Click here for more details.
