How did it start?
Derek started attending the Kamo Sit-Fit exercise group in October 2018. He was finding it difficult to keep regularly active, after suffering from nerve damage to his back. This affected his legs, particularly with strength and balance.
How did you overcome your challenges?
Derek persisted at regular exercise. He combined the Tai-Chi and Sit-Fit classes he attended with walking and using an exercycle at home. Derek challenged the limits of his balance during the classes and overtime, the exercises became easier. Derek says a turning point was wearing a knee stabilizer “I can now better complete the class exercises”.
What does the future hold for you?
Derek has a great outlook for the future, “by feeling fitter I feel I have a better quality of life!” He has a lot more stamina now, which has improved his breathing. He is motivated to continue the positive lifestyle changes he has made.
