Taylah aged 16 was referred to Green Prescription in June to help manage her anxiety, stress and depression. This is her story.
Q: Since being referred to the Green Prescription programme, how has your lifestyle changed?
Since being referred to the Green Prescription programme my lifestyle has changed for the better. I’m more focused, I feel more energetic and I feel readier for the day I may face. I get up earlier and feel excited to work out before the day starts, whereas before I wouldn’t want to get out of bed and wouldn’t have the enjoyment I have now about getting up to a workout.
I normally work out in the mornings and if not, then in the evenings. Sometimes my sister joins me, and we teach each other different workout routines.
Q: How much of an impact did the green prescription support have on these changes?
The Green Prescription support played a huge role in my lifestyle change. The Green Prescription was sort of a way for me to make that step into getting fit. Getting fit was one of my goals to work towards for my dream of becoming an actor.
Q: Who else helped you to make the change?
There were a few people that helped me. My family was all very supportive and would offer to take me to the gym or a meeting I would have related to the Green Prescription. I have a support person Beverley, who comes with me every week to the gym and does the workout routines with me and we cheer each other on!
Q: What difference have you noticed since making this change?
If I work out in the mornings I feel more focused throughout the day. I feel like I have accomplished something before even starting my day.
Q: What would you say to someone else wanting to make a change to their lifestyle?
A great way to start is by doing small changes like beginning meditation or yoga and see if someone will do it with you so you can cheer/support each other on.
There was a time where I just wanted to stop, I felt like it wasn’t worth it and just wanted to go back to how my lifestyle was. But then I thought, I’ve started this change for a reason, so I can’t go back. I’ve already come so far, I need to keep going - it gets better.
