Active Intervention Management Walking the Talk

Active Intervention Management (AIM) is a highly experienced team of Occupational Therapists, Occupational Health nurses, Physiotherapists, Clinical and Health Psychologists and Medical Specialists who provide a range of individual, pain, and vocational assessments and interventions to assist companies to prevent and manage work injuries.

For over a year, the AIM team has been working alongside the Active Workplace programme working with other workplaces and developing their own wellness plan for staff.  AIM’s comprehensive wellness plan contains a variety of workplace wellness initiatives including team building/activity where staff participate in the Sport Northland run/walk series and as a bonus, took out the team spot prize in last year’s Ray White Hatea Loop Challenge. Individual activity also features among staff with keen gardeners, walkers and gym goers.

The AIM team use facebook as a medium of communication among the team with recipe sharing, social occasions and online challenges.  A recent online Smart Fuel Challenge (which entails participants receiving a newsletter that shares information about a healthy eating strategy at the beginning of each week over a 4 week period) saw participants implementing the strategy throughout the weeks, earning points for completing the quick tips tasks (points are recorded as tasks are completed on their challenge log).  AIM staff participated and encouraged each other to try new healthy eating options and to share information producing some really good tips/tricks where staff regained awareness of their daily food choices. Some examples included homemade options being prepared the night before, staff posting recipes via face book, and one staff member’s husband shared great pictures of his weekly healthy meal options.

Educational opportunities are always a focus for the staff at AIM who have undergone health checks using a Bio Impedance machine (this measures your full body composition with giving results in such areas of muscle mass, muscle quality, visceral fat levels, body water content etc).

Sharon Adams, Active Workplace Coordinator says “its great to see AIM walking the talk and also looking after other workplaces and their staff in health and safety practices.”
