Sport Thought with Brent Eastwood

The next couple of months present three really good opportunities for Northlanders to get active through the 2017 Sport Northland Run/Walk Series and at the same time get their name in the draw for that wonderful Mazda 2 that is up for grabs courtesy of our friends at Pacific Motor Group.

One lucky Northlander who has competed in the 7 event series will drive away in a Mazda 2 after the last event of the series, the ASB Kerikeri Half Marathon in November. And the more events you enter, the more times your name goes into the hat to win the car, with the number of entries increasing exponentially the more events you enter.

Here’s the run-down – enter one event and you receive one entry in the draw, but after that your chances will double with each extra entry – participating in two events gives you two entries in the draw, three events gives you four entries, four events gives you eight, five events gives you 16, six events 32 and for those committed individuals who do all seven events you will get 64 entries for the Mazda 2.

Sport Northland is very thankful to loyal sponsor Pacific Motor Group, who will be giving away a car for the 12th year in succession in support of the Run/Walk Series; a truly amazing effort from a fantastic locally owned and operated company!

The events are designed and planned to offer people 'stepping stone' distances that increase with each event – this began a few weeks ago with a 5.6km distance in the Chilltech Beach 2 Basin and builds up to the 21km in the ASB Kerikeri Half Marathon in November.

The second event of the series will be the next chance to receive an entry for the car draw - the Hotprintz Mangawhai Run/Walk event, which will be held this Sunday. This event offers two distances – the shorter 4.5km distance and the longer 8.5km distance which both start and finish at the Mangawhai Heads Holiday Park and take in the scenic Mangawhai waterfront.

The third event of the series follows with the Jennian Homes Mother’s Day event being held in Paihia on Sunday 14 May. This would be one of the most picturesque event courses in NZ, with both the 6km walk and the 8.7km run starting in Paihia and winding their way through Waitangi before finishing back in Paihia. Both distances incorporate sealed and grass surfaces and take in the coastal track on the Waitangi Treaty Grounds.

The Dargaville Vetinary Centre Baylys 2 Dargaville Run/Walk event follows on Sunday 11 June.

So get motivated and enter you and your family members in these events – you will feel so much better for it while having a great day out in three very scenic parts of our beautiful region - and of course you could end up driving away the Mazda 2 from Pacific Motor Group!
