From Manaia View School to World Hip Hop Stage

Manaia View School has had a lot of success in the past with students thriving in hip hop.  “Its an awesome outlet for the students to become more expressive and creative, showcasing their dancing skills with performances for the community and school” says Kaiwhakahaere Horrace Maunsell.

The most recent success for the school comes from an ex-student Anaya Wakelin who this year competed at the 2016 Hip Hop international world championships, held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Anaya is dancing under one of the most successful dance studios in the world The Palace Dance Studio competing as part of the mega crew RFV.

Anaya was part of the successful Manaia View hip hop dance crew that competed at the 2015 AIMS games claiming silver medal. She played an important role in the team using her experience to help guide her crew members in training, keeping everyone in line, being the team leader, and also had input in choreography adding some creative movements within the routine.

Hip Hop International is an annual competition which the best hip hop dance crews from 47 different countries from around the world compete for a chance to stand on the podium with their country’s flag flying. It is the Olympics of the hip hop world in which every dance crew aspires to be a part of.  Needless to say it is no easy task competing against the world’s best dancers and with intense training, Anaya and her crew were up for the challenge showcasing their unique style of dancing, impressing the judges to come away with the bronze medal.
