In an exciting new initiative, the Green Prescription programme at Sport Northland recently hosted a nutrition workshop, led by Linda Sossenheimer, one of our Healthy Lifestyle Support kaimahi with a background in nutrition.
The workshop, focused on understanding food as a pathway to healthy nutrition, and was used as a trial to see if such sessions could be integrated into the programme moving forward.

The workshop saw an enthusiastic turnout, with 14 participants eager to learn and engage. The session began with a demonstration on how to make hummus, a healthy snack option. Participants had the opportunity to try the hummus with a variety of healthy crackers and vegetables, and many couldn't wait to try the recipe at home themselves.
The response from attendees of the workshop was overwhelmingly positive. One participant shared, "I learned a lot from the workshop and really enjoyed the content," while another said, "It was really informative and has inspired me to kickstart my healthy eating journey." Such feedback highlights the potential impact of these workshops on our community.
Healthy Lifestyle team lead Claudia Ashby expressed excitement about the initiative, stating, "this is the first time we have ever tried something like this, and it is amazing to see how engaged each participant was with the workshop. I’m really excited about including more regular workshops into our programme."

We are looking forward to hosting more workshops on various topics in the future, using these sessions as a way to engage with our participants in different and meaningful ways. The success of this trial workshop has shown that we can create a supportive environment that enhances the well-being and healthy lifestyles of those we serve.
At Sport Northland, we exist to enrich Northlanders' lives by inspiring and enabling more movement, and one of the ways we do this is through Green Prescription - supporting people on their journey.
