Weet-Bix TRY Challenge

In its second year running, the Weetbix Try Challenge made waves once again at the beginning of term 1, 2024. This year's event, jointly hosted by Kaikohe Christian School and Ohaeawai Primary School, built upon the solid foundation laid during the first event held in 2023. From planning sessions to event day coordination, these schools spared no effort to ensure a day filled with camaraderie and fun for all tamariki and whānau involved.

Over 800 participants, ranging from whānau to eager akonga, embraced the spirit of the challenge wholeheartedly. A highlight of the day was the return of a dedicated volunteer, the same mum who had lent her support during the previous year's event.

Beyond the school grounds, the event welcomed daycare tamariki and enthusiastic community members, turning the Weetbix Try Challenge into a true celebration of community spirit. Social media platforms lit up with posts from families, proudly showcasing their tamariki moments of achievements and fun.

Even weeks after the event the community continued to talk about the success of the event. Children proudly sported their medals to school, a reminder of their experience and the fun day that they got to be a part of.

Looking forward, it's clear that these schools are in a great position to carry the torch of this event for the following years to come. The possibility of them independently managing future challenges, with minimal assistance from eternal organisations such as Sport Northland, speaks volumes about the event's impact in the broader Kaikohe community. This is sustainability in action, where a community event evolves into a cherished tradition, enriching the lives of all involved year after year. The Weetbix Try Challenge isn't just about sport; it shows the power of community coming together, connection that extends well beyond the final whistle.
