Northland’s Top Secondary School Athletes Invited to ASB Performance Pathway

New Zealand hockey player Charlotte Harrison and high performance athlete Ady McKenzie will offer sport and career advice to a selection of Northland’s most promising secondary school athletes at this year’s ASB Performance Pathway.

In its second year, the ASB Performance Pathway, held at the ASB Leisure Centre in Whangarei, is offered to more than 35 of this year’s Sport Northland ASB Secondary School Sports Awards finalists. The event provides budding professional athletes an opportunity to ask questions and seek advice on what it takes to become a world-class athlete.

By way of congratulating this year’s Sport Northland ASB Secondary School Sports Awards finalists, the Northland athletes have been invited to attend and participate in the ASB Performance Pathway event, hosted by ASB and Sport Northland.

Throughout the day students will take part in activities which include coaching in the areas of nutrition, sportsmanship, leadership, and care and communication.

Black Sticks player and two-time ASB Northland Secondary Sportswoman of the Year Charlotte Harrison is looking forward to joining the group and sharing her experiences as a three-time Olympic hockey player.

“It is great to come back to Whangarei to share my experiences with the 2016 ASB winners and pass on some helpful tips to these young athletes”.

Charlotte has played over 200 games for the Black Sticks.

Ady McKenzie, top former marathoner and triathlete, will return to the ASB Performance Pathway this year to host seminars on living life as a high performance athlete and run a nutritionist session.

ASB Northland regional manager Glen Hardharm is thrilled to co-host the ASB Performance Pathway building on ASB’s relationship with Sport Northland, as both organisations continue to invest in the region’s future.

“ASB enjoys a 25-year partnership with Sport Northland, and over that time we’ve supported some very successful sporting events for the region’s local sport enthusiasts,” Mr Hardham says.

“We are delighted to offer an exciting and beneficial day-long event to upcoming athletes who are passionate about making a career of their chosen sport. It’s going to be a great day for all involved,” Mr Hardham says.
