Whangaroa's Heart of Health: The Pā Welcomes All to Thrive

A community wellness centre, known locally as the Pā, is situated in the heart of the Kāeo township and provides free access for all Whangaroa residents. The Pā is one of many health initiatives provided through the Community Outreach Programme at the Whangaroa Health Services Trust to support and promote healthier lifestyles to everyone living in the wider Whangaroa rohe. All are welcome regardless of age, ability, fitness level, or goals.

The Pā is supported by a talented multidisciplinary Wellness Team offering a multitude of services including outreach nurses, a physio, a nutritionist, a health navigator, a teaching garden, and smokefree support services. The Pā also offers a great selection of well-attended fitness classes led by two qualified personal trainers, ranging from High Intensity (HIIT) to line-dancing and rangatahi hauora classes.

Whangaroa residents can now also access the facilities outside the public hours of Monday to Friday 7.30am to 4pm, 7 days a week. For further information on the criteria and how to register, drop in and chat with the team at The Pā or phone to receive a callback on 09 405 1743.

Corrin, Sport Northland’s Healthy lifestyle and Community Strength and Balance support person is feeling very grateful to be able to utilise space at The Pā to now connect with participants on Green Prescription in the Whangaroa area. “I look forward to working alongside the wonderful team at The Pā and Whangaroa Health Services to better serving our community together”.

Dawns Move it or Lose it class – an ACC approved community strength and balance class also runs out of The Pā on a Monday at 1pm.

The Green Prescription Programme here at Sport Northland, is a 6-month healthy lifestyle programme for adults who would benefit from one-on-one support to make small, achievable changes to improve their health and wellbeing (whānau / family support is also encouraged).   Green Prescription focuses on supporting healthybehaviourchanges by developing sustainable physical activity and nutritional habits. For more information, reach out to us on 0800 ACTIVE.
