Students from the Northern Health School were invited to attend a “Give it a go” Day, facilitated by Sport Northland’s Active Families Coordinator Mackenzie Nicolle recently.
The opportunity was designed to give the students a go at some activities they may not have had the chance to experience previously. North Health School is one of three New Zealand health schools providing community and hospital-based teaching to school aged students who are too unwell to attend their regular school.
“We were lucky enough to have Parafed Northland, North Golf Association and Kensington Fitness also involved in this day” says Mackenzie.
Parafed Northland ran the first session on ‘Wheelchair Turbo Touch’. Students were fortunate to use the Parafed wheelchairs that also are used by their members in competitions. The next session for the day was Snag Golf which was supplied from North Golf. The last session for the day was one of the virtual Les Mills Body Combat classes at Kensington Fitness.
“It was awesome to see all the students partake and even their teachers! Students who were involved had an amazing time; they were very excited to finish the term on such a fun eventful afternoon” explains Mackenzie.
“This is absolutely great, thanks so much for giving this opportunity to the students” says Northern Health School Teacher. Check out this short video with all the action here.
We are hoping to make this an annual event, so that the opportunity continues for students at Northern Health School. If you are a club or an organisation that would like to be involved in a future give it a go day, please reach out to Sport Northland on mackenzien@sportnorth.co.nz.
