We’ve all heard that exercise helps improve our health for a raft of reasons, and yet it remains for some, one of the least sought out forms of prevention and treatment. Why?
Sometimes we think it is ‘big and scary?’ or have we made up reasons for not doing it like ‘I’m not one of those people’, ‘there’s nothing suitable for me’, I don’t have the time, or ‘It’s too late for it to make a difference to my life’. If any of these thoughts sound like yours or maybe you have some others, I plead with you to think again. There are classes in your community, made up of people just like you. The classes are specific to your needs, they’re not so ‘big and scary’ and they will make a difference to your health from the very first day you start.
The ‘Steady As You Go’ (SAYGO) class is an ACC certified Strength and Balance class that meets each and every week. Class instructor Merren leads a well-crafted programme with a wealth of experience and time of working with older adults helping them to improve not only their strength and balance but also their total wellbeing. The class is a fun social experience, and you will start to feel the difference.
Here's what some of her class participants have to say about the class;
“I tripped three times in the year before I started this class and I broke my wrist twice, and I haven’t fallen since, and I’ve been coming for three years” – Sue
“I really enjoy the class” – Clive
“The classes are well worth going to, they keep us moving” – Con
“I’ve come to move my bones and that’s exactly what’s happening, I find my legs are getting stronger. I really appreciate the tutor because she observes and watches you, and where she sees you’re doing something wrong she’ll come over and help with that” – Linda
If you’re thinking of making a start, make the call today. The SAYGO class meets every Wednesday at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church Hall in Kensington, 1pm. For more info contact Merren (09 436 2478) and enquire today.
