At Sport Northland we exist to enrich lives through play, active recreation, and sport. One of the ways we do this is through Green Prescription – supporting individuals and whānau on their hauora journey. If you would like some support with your activity goals, give us a call on phone 0800 GET ACTIVE …. we are here to help!
Check out this lovely poem from one of our participants, George:
Whangarei is where the mighty whales meet
In their home that is the sea
But although I pen this missive
Dry land’s the place for me
With dream state slowly leaving
I eased myself from bed
Tossed away the crumpled pillows
The silk ones coloured red
I trod towards the shower room
Lathered soap upon my head
Wishing sadly I was still sleeping
Soundly on my feathered bed !
I poured a cup of coffee
Slowly down my throat
Looking at my daily breakfast
A porridge made with fine crushed oats!!
My chariot was ready
Fully charged by the front door
My swim suit packed kept handy
I stumbled then I swore
But
I arrived in time
The reception lay ahead
I drew a breath and entered in
Well, I’m here now folks
That’s what I said!
Pools of water were the scene
As I stumbled to the looming desk
My vaccine pass was held to view
Along with the others, all of the crew
The pool was warm and homely!
The patrons slashed about
The teacher blew her whistle
Then began to shout
Put your right leg in
Your left leg out
In out in out make the water spout!
Do the okey cokey and turn around
That’s what it’s all about
Well let me tell you from my heart
This aqua splashing quite a lark!
Warm water coming to my chest
Water therapy is quite the best
The pass of green I now do hold
Now admitted to the elder fold
The Monday lesson I suggest
Is rated with the very best
I quit the pool
Then dried myself
Collected keys and phone
I bade farewell to all my friends
