Earlier this month, we caught up with Ray Lawson.  Ray was a lucky recipient of establishing a garden through Green Prescription here at Sport Northland.

The garden initiative comes from the Kai Ora fund - established to support the development of sustainable gardens and improve access to healthy kai.

Here’s what Ray has to say after developing his garden, only a few weeks into it.

“Things are going great.   The garden is doing very well, have been eating from it.    Loving the spinach and sliverbeet, the others aren't too far away.”

“I really enjoy having the garden and getting fresh vegetables as they taste so much better.  It has changed the way I think about gardening in general because of how easy it is to grow your own food.  I plan to grow a lot more food and to make a bigger garden as well.  In learning more about gardening I have found a more interesting way of growing and that is aeroponics which I would like to try as well later.  All up gardening has had a positive impact on my life and totally loving it.   I wish more people could get involved as it is easy and healthy”.

(Aeroponics is the process of growing plants in an air or mist environment rather than soil).
