BikeReady Coordinator - Far North District

Mā te huruhuru ka rere te manu.

The position is a 25 hours per week, fixed term contract and is based in the Far North area, with the primary base located in Kaitaia.


Mō te tūranga | Primary Purpose

Quality delivery of BikeReady programme into targeted schools and targeted adult sessions. 

The outcome sought from this position:

Work with Schools and communities to increase children / adults learning and developing cycling skills, to drive further cycling uptake.

We are looking for an enthusiastic person who is physically fit with a passion for working with tamariki and cycling, or active sport and recreation.


You will have:

  • The ability to build and maintain good relationships with school and various groups
  • Experience in delivering / instructing active recreation or sport programmes
  • Experience in working with tamariki / rangatahi
  • Experience in backing a trailer
  • Have an interest in cycling, active recreation or sport
  • Basic knowledge or experience in bike mechanics (however not essential)
  • A fun and vibrant attitude to work in a small team
  • A restricted or full, clean driver's license & own car for travel
  • To ideally live in Kaitaia, or the surrounding district
  • Be able to do early starts (e.g. 7-7.30am) in order to travel to schools for the beginning of the school day
  • To be willing to take part in the BikeReady Instructor training and become qualified (if not already)
  • The right to live and work in New Zealand and must value healthy lifestyles

On-the-job training will be provided to the right candidate/s in the BikeReady programme.


The BikeReady programme is a joint initiative between Bike Northland, Sport Northland, Far North District Council and is seeking to increase the number of children and adults to cycle (www.bikeready.govt.nz).

BikeReady Lead

Mō te tūranga | Primary Purpose

Lead the BikeReady team to ensure the quality delivery of the BikeReady programme into targeted schools and targeted adult sessions in Whangarei and the Far North Districts.  

The outcome sought from this position:

Through the BikeReady team, work with schools and communities to increase children / adults learning and developing cycling skills, to drive further cycling uptake.

We are looking for enthusiastic person that is experienced in people leadership, physically fit with a passion for cycling and working with tamariki.

Ideally you will have:

  • Experience in leadership and programme development, monitoring and evaluation
  • Experience in delivering / instructing active recreation or sport programmes
  • Experience in working with tamariki
  • Experience in backing a trailer
  • Have an interest in cycling, active recreation or sport
  • Basic knowledge or experience in bike mechanics (however not essential)
  • A fun and vibrant attitude to work in a small team

The candidate will need a full, clean driver's license and must have the right to live and work in New Zealand and must value healthy lifestyles.


On-the-job training will be provided to the right candidate in the BikeReady programme.
