The Dargaville Veterinary Centre Baylys 2 Dargaville Run/Walk, set down for Sunday 12 June, will be the fourth event in the 2016 Sport Northland Run/Walk Series. Walkers and runners will have the option of picking either the longer 12km route starting at Baylys Beach at 9.00am, or the shorter option of 6.8km which will start at Rick’s Paint Shop on Baylys Coast Road at 8.30am. Free buses will leave from Logan Street beside Memorial Park to deliver participants to their respective start lines from 7.30am.
The first three events in the Run/Walk Series have been dominated by top Northland runners Harry Linford and Carolyn Younger. If they are successful at Dargaville, they will gain further points on the NorthCloud Leaderboard which will almost put them out of reach, as we go into the second half of the series.
Last year’s event attracted over 700 entries with well over half of these coming from outside the Kaipara region. Sport Northland’s Events Team Leader Azelia Parkinson says the goal this year is to attract more locals to compete.
“The Sport Northland team is keen to promote the event into the local community and hopes to attract more of the schools and workplaces to support the event”, she says.
Sport Northland is fortunate to have the support of the Dargaville Veterinary Centre as the major sponsor plus a number of key support sponsors who provide the great prizes available at the event. Thermatech clothing packs, Fullers GreatSights trips, Smiths Sports Shoe vouchers plus an iPad mini from NorthCloud. More FM will once again host the post event prize giving at Memorial Park at 11.30am
All Northland adults who enter the event will go into the draw to win the Mazda 2 from Pacific Motor Group. This car will be drawn following the final event in the series, the ASB Kerikeri Half Marathon
Entries can be made at www.runwalkseries.co.nz and close on Wednesday 8 June.
