Introduction:
BMX stands for bicycle motorcross, and riders pedal around an undulating dirt track which is approx 400m long. It is a very social family sport, where you make friends quickly. With mums, dads and children of all ages on the track from 3years to 60 plus.

On club nights everyone is mixed in races according to age and ability: making racing fun, challenging and of course great exercise.

Season:
Club nights are held every Wednesday night during daylight savings hours at the BMX track, with check in between 5:00pm & 5:45pm, and racing underway 6.00pm. Full safety gear is required to be on the track, and we can assist with the requirements. Pre-season Sunday afternoon practise racing usually starts Mid August weather depending.

School Programmes:
Our School Challenge is held annually in November with an open invitation to all Primary, Intermediate and High Schools in the area. Last year approx 120 children from 12 schools competed for the covenant top 4 schools Trophies.

Events / Tournaments:
We run coaching/training sessions for the younger and new riders on Monday evenings through the season and coaching sessions for the established competitive riders as well.

We also host Inter club meets – where club riders from all BMX Clubs in New Zealand are able to come to our track for a fun weekend of racing.

Occasionally we get to host National and North Island Championship meetings where the best riders in New Zealand come to compete for National and Island titles. These events are a great spectacle and very exciting to watch.

New Track:
We have recently built a new UCI International Standard BMX track at the eastern end of Pohe Island. When the Club isn’t using it for events it is open for the public to use, but please take care and never ride alone. Always wear a helmet.

Introduction:
The term Mountain biking covers many different facets of off road cycling ranging from X country, down hill, jumping and technical trail riding. With a wide variety of stiles of riding it attracts a broad range of people from family groups to very advanced riders.

Mountain biking was started by a group of guys seeing who could go downhill fastest on their “clunkers” – home made bikes with parts taken from tandems and motorbikes. These same guys are now household names in mountain bike circles. Gary Fisher , Tom Ritchey , Joe Breeze ,Charlie Kelly started out bodging bikes from anything they could find and trying to keep them together for long enough to descend the famous Repack downhill race , run as a time trial down a dirt road in Marin County California. Today’s bikes have advanced and so has mountain biking. Friends can now ride up; down; practically anywhere two wheels can go having fun and enjoying each others company. It is a fantastic way to keep fit and enjoy Northlands scenery. If you really get hooked there are always local and national bike races being held where you can test your fitness against the clock and other riders?

Mountain Biking is fast, technical, fun and a great sport for kids, mums and dads. You can make it as serious as you like or just serious fun. So much of Northland is waiting to be discovered and mountain biking makes it easy.

A big part of the club's goals is to develop a network of mountain bike trails. New members are welcomed; joining a club is the best way to support the scene! So come along for a ride, help build a trail or come along to one of our events.
