High profile partnership in Sport over the years

Sport in Northland has seen many high profile partnerships over the years – think Blyth Tait and Reddy Teddy, Ian Jones and ‘Kamo’ and the Going brothers and their famous triple scissors backline move!

And while not quite in the same league in terms of national profile, the partnership between Sport Northland and ASB has nevertheless been just as successful and enduring.

Not many corporates can boast a 20 year continuous sponsorship with the same organisation, but ASB certainly can with Sport Northland. The partnership kicked off way back in 1992 when ASB took up major sponsor status with Sport Northland, including the naming rights to the inaugural ASB Northland Secondary Schools Sports Awards and the ASB Coaching Team.

And while over the years the some specifics of the sponsorship have changed slightly, what has remained constant is ASB’s commitment to the partnership and to supporting Sport Northland in our mission of ‘creating a more active Northland’.

And it is now a real pleasure to announce that ASB have not only renewed their commitment to the organisation for another three years, they have increased the level of their sponsorship back to the ‘major’ category, easily making them once again the organisation’s biggest and most high profile sponsor.

Sport Northland’s 3 court stadium up at Kensington Park will now be known as ASB Stadium, joining the existing ASB Leisure Centre and the ASB Northland Sports House as naming rights facilities at Kensington Park bearing the ASB name.

Other new sponsorship properties include naming rights to the ASB Northland Secondary Schools Hip Hop Champs and the ASB Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) Programme, the latter being a very successful programme that Sport Northland runs supporting teachers to teach primary schools kids the fundamental skills required in movement.

And with the ASB Northland Secondary Schools Sports Awards and the ASB Secondary Schools Sports Events Programme remaining unchanged, it is obvious that ASB is fully committed to supporting the development of youth sport across Northland.

Sport Northland is very grateful to ASB for the unwaivering support they provide to sport in Northland, and looks forward to the extension of this partnership over the coming years.
